This website is specifically used to host my projects, and whatever else I feel like uploading at the time.

I was going to use this area on the website to describe myself, but decided against it. One day I will update this, but that day is not today. It probably won't be tomorrow either, but it could be.

Trunk Line, level 3: two switches joined by a trunk. A glowing frame is crossing the trunk carrying an 802.1Q tag for VLAN 10, and the frame inspector below shows the same tag.

Trunk Line

A game that teaches VLANs, tagging and firewall rules one frame at a time.

You configure switch ports and firewall rules, run a set of test flows, then watch a single Ethernet frame travel hop by hop across the diagram. The frame inspector shows the 802.1Q tag going on at a trunk port and coming off at the far access port. Every failed test names the exact port that dropped the frame and why.

Twenty levels, from access ports through native VLANs, voice, hypervisors and cameras to a three-tier DMZ, two troubleshooting gauntlets and an office built from a blank switch, three stars each. Every port panel shows the same config in Cisco, UniFi and Aruba CX terms, and the firewall shows its rules as SonicOS zones and access rules, because half the confusion is vocabulary.

Currently learning networking properly: VLANs, 802.1Q, native VLAN traps, firewall policy. Trunk Line is the study guide I could not find, so I made it. More to come as the list of things that will not stick gets shorter.
